Meet the Texas Counseling Education Alliance Team

Monica Reyes leads content strategy for Texas Counseling Education Alliance. After years working as a university recruiter, she helped countless students explore counseling programs across Texas and navigate the state’s unique licensing requirements. Through these advising sessions, she recognized that prospective counselors needed a centralized source of accurate information about NCE and NCMHCE exams, LPC regulations, and program comparisons—so she created this site to fill that gap.

Kevin Brooks oversees educational partnerships throughout Texas. Growing up watching his mother work as a school counselor in Houston, he witnessed firsthand how her work with at-risk youth demonstrated the critical role counselors play in communities. Kevin evaluates programs for CACREP accreditation compliance, practicum quality, and graduate success rates, connecting visitors with institutions that thoroughly prepare students for Texas licensure.

What We Do

Texas has specific requirements for counselor licensure that differ from other states, including distinct pathways for LPC-Associate and LPC credentials regulated by the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council. Texas Counseling Education Alliance breaks down these requirements in plain language.

We compare master’s and doctoral counseling programs across Texas, covering program costs and formats, specialization tracks, and clinical training support. We explain the supervised practice hours needed for each license level, how the licensing exams work, and what continuing education is required to maintain your credentials. We address practical concerns like internship placement assistance, part-time versus full-time enrollment, and how to choose between clinical mental health counseling, school counseling, and other specialty areas based on your career goals.
